ISF Summer Festival

ISF held a summer festival on May 13th from 10:00 to14:00. Many people participated in this event. There were Kindergarten to High school students and their parents and various activities took place. Several volunteers from various countries gathered for the Taste of the World in the ISF cafeteria. There was a bouncy castle for children outside and jewelry made by grade 9 and 10 Kenya Project students was sold. Two grade 10 volunteers organized a postcard-making activity to raise funds. In the end, a total of 700 Euro was raised in this festival.

The money collected will go towards the Kenya water project, which is scheduled to start in July. Parts of Kenya don’t have a consistent supply of water, and people spend a lot of time waiting for water delivery from the government. In this water project, the goal is to secure a water source for the local people by digging about 200 meters underground. We hope that daily life in Kenya will be better if water is located.

Thank you for your participation and cooperation in the event! Also, thank you to parents and teachers who helped with this event.

Japanese Bake Sale

ISF’s Grade 10 and 11 students held an event to support the Kenya Project. This event was held on 3rd March, which is a Japanese holiday. Japanese-style sweets such as Daifuku and sweets made with matcha were sold.

We are pleased that 273 Euros was raised for the Kenya Project at this event! The funds raised will go towards the Chitsanze School’s Water Project in Kenya. Thank you for your cooperation!

Kenya Project Fashion Show

ISF organized a fashion show for Kindergarten students as a fun event to support the school and the Kenya Project. On the 10th of December, a performance in the theatre allowed Kindergarten groups to sing and present their T-shirts, which had beautiful custom designs drawn and colored by the students. The theme of the event was “Children helping children”, and the Kenya Project was able to raise funds using a donation box. Many parents expressed their backing and came to view the event via a livestream.

We are delighted to announce that the Kindergarten Fashion show which took place in December 2020  at ISF raised 405.59 Euros for the ISF Kenya Project. The funds raised will go towards the construction of the proposed new cafeteria at Chitsanze Primary School, Kenya. Thank you all for your support!

Bake Sale at ISF | €1000 Raised

A winter bake sale at ISF has considerably helped raise funds for the Kenya Project. The bake sale took place on the 12th December during school hours.

The bake sale, which was organized by the Parent Network, allowed students, parents, and teachers to choose from a wide range of holiday-themed pastries and sweets. The sale helped bring the school into a holiday spirit given the winter holidays coming up, and allowed the ISF community to contribute to the Kenya Project. Profits from the popular sale went the Kenya charity fundraising, and a final tally showed that 1000 Euros were raised. This will go towards the building of the new cafeteria at the schools.

Bottle Collection: Kenya Project Funding

One of the ways ISF collects donations and spreads awareness for the Kenya Project is through bottle recycling and through its affiliated SLO (Student Life Organization) activities. Recycling bottles supports the Chitsanze School economically, keeps the school clean, and supports a clean environment. Here’s how its done:

Step 1: Awareness

Posters, billboards, and messages around the school create awareness for the Kenya Project and bottle collection.

Step 2: Availability and Action

Bottle collection baskets have been set up and are found around the school for students to deposit recyclable bottles in.

Step 3: Collection and Donation

Every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, bottles are collected in the SLO hour. The bottles are taken to a local supermarket for recycling by Kenya Project students and the Kenya Project coordinator. Students learn practical and ethical skills in these activities, whilst also spreading awareness.

Step 4: Funding the Chitsanze School Compound

Funds collected weekly are paid in the ISF Kenya Project e.V. bank account. Various projects are decided upon by board members and the funds are transferred to Tenda Pamoja, the NGO we work with in Kenya.

COVID-19 in Kenya

The Chitsanze School Compound has been closed since the lockdown in Kenya started on 6th April 2020. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta imposed an initial three week ban on movement in and out of four main Corona virus infected areas which has since been extended.

Disinfectants and masks for Chitsanze School Community

Funds to buy masks and disinfectants were donated by the ISF Kenya Project to help the Chitsanze school community during the Covid 19 pandemic. Approximately 500 masks and disinfectants were delivered to Chitsanze by Samson and Samiel of Tenda Pamoja on the 20th May.  Adults were only able to leave the house with masks at the time. These donations helped parents, grandparents and teachers to go out and buy food for their children or grandchildren. The efforts aided in spreading awareness about the virus and prevention measures.

Action at ISF

Despite COVID-19 restrictions in the school, the students who have joined the ISF Kenya Project this academic year will continue to collect empty bottles in their designated areas. Once collected, the bottles will be taken to the local supermarket by students and teachers. The funds raised from this activity will go towards the building of the first ever school cafeteria at Chitsanze. So far we have raised 2500 Euros towards the cafeteria but we need to raise another 6500 Euros by April of 2021. It is hoped that recycling bottles will be one way to get closer to our goal.

A shop window has been opened at ISF for students to buy bracelets made by ISF Kenya Project members. All funds will go the Chitsanze School and Tenda Pamoja.

Sporting Facilities

New sporting facilities and equipment have arrived and have been assembled at Chitanze Primary and Secondary School. Included is various sports gear, flipper, balls, swings, goalposts, a slide and more! This will undoubtedly help make the school are more active, lively and fun experience for the students! We have created a new small page for the yard and sporting facilities with lots of pictures. Find it here.

Goalposts and the swingset donated by ISF arriving and being set up.
